Our Promise

At the K-Max MOT centre we pride ourselves on being conscientious, always considering the safety of our customers first and our long-standing reputation for professional integrity.

Whether your vehicle passes or fails the MOT test, we will always endeavour to provide our customers with advice on any other items that we consider to be in need of attention, in the interests of safety, legal requirements, performance and avoiding damage to your vehicle. This may just be advice about keeping an eye on certain items, such as tyres with low tread, or identifying brake pads that starting to wear thin. Ultimately we are here to test your vehicle meets the legal requirements of the MOT test but we will always put your safety first where we identify potential risks.

Booking An MOT

To arrange an MOT test at our MOT test centre in Barnet we usually recommend that you contact us to make a booking, as we are usually quite busy. We will always do what we can to get your vehicle in for an MOT test as soon as possible. Your MOT test may then be done whilst you wait.

The MOT test is a comprehensive vehicle check and it typically takes a tester around 40 minutes to complete all of the inspections, though this can vary depending on the vehicle and any faults or failings that may need to be examined further.

You can find out more about the test requirements on The MOT Test page.

MOT Test – Pass

If the vehicle passes the MOT test you are then issued a VT20, commonly known as an MOT Test Pass Certificate and your vehicle is considered to have met the minimum safety and environmental standards.

An ‘MOT Pass’ means that at the time of testing your vehicle was considered legal to drive on the road in the eyes of the law. It is important to remember that an MOT test does not guarantee the general mechanical condition of the vehicle.

At K-Max we always recommend that you perform regular checks and servicing on your vehicle to maintain the integrity of the vehicle to ensure that you are not putting the safety of yourself and others at risk.

MOT Certificate with Minor Defect & Advisory Notes

In the interests of our customers safety we will always endeavour to highlight any items that we believe need your consideration in the advisory notes of the MOT certificate. This is typically because they are parts that are wearing-down or low and as such they are likely to need either repairs or replacement in the near future. You are not obliged to have these repairs completed or parts fitted immediately. It is to make you aware, so you can make an informed decision and keep a check on them , so they don’t become a risk or cause a fault with your vehicle.

MOT Test Failures

An MOT failure means that your vehicle needs some form of servicing, repairs or replacement parts fitted to bring it up to the required safety standards.

Our MOT Tester will will talk you through any problems that were identified during the series of MOT checks. They will then be able to advise on the best course of action to make your vehicle safe and legal, along with the respective costs for completing any repairs and/or the supply of any replacement parts that are required.

FREE Re-test Within 10 Working Days

At K-Max we can repair or service your car for you, or alternatively we can issue you with a VT30 (MOT failure) so you can go and have the work done elsewhere. Whatever you decide, we will allow you to have an MOT re-test for free within 10 working days of the MOT failure. It is of course important to note that if your vehicle does not have a valid MOT certificate your insurance may be invalidated.
